“World War II in Rhode Island”

Talk, Film & Book Signing


Presenter: Christian McBurney


HELLCATS and blackout shades!! Come enjoy Historian and Author Christian McBurney's discussion of his book, "World War II in Rhode Island".  Christian will review Little Rhody's high involvement in support of the War effort and highlight Charlestown area wartime activities. Additionally, Christian is collecting memories of WWII from Society members for sharing at this discussion and for ultimate inclusion potentially in a new updated version of the book.  


Mr. McBurney's book will be available for purchase at the presentation and refreshments will also be on hand.

“URI Oceanographer and Researcher discuss Pre-Columbian Settlements on What is Now the Sea Bottom Between Quonnie and Block Island”


Presenters: David Robinson, Professor & Oceanographer and John King, Researcher, URI-GSO

 

Marine Scientists from the URI-GSO discuss results fro their recently completed 5 year study focused on developing new approaches for identifying and protecting ancient Native American cultural sites submerged on the Continental Shelf by post-glacial sea level rise.  Descriptions of archaeological sites and ancient landscapes and environments discovered for the first time in RI waters, the methods used to find them, and the lessons learned from conducting this research with our tribal partners, are presented.

QHS Annual Meeting, Program and Social


Program:  “80th Anniversary, Hurricane of 38”

What happened at Quonnie then?  What could happen now?


A very brief QHS annual meeting will begin at 7:00 PM and be immediately followed by the 1938 Hurricane program presentation and Social.  


Following the presentation. all are welcome to tour the QHS’s Research and Archive Center, located on the lower level of the Grange.
